Artist's Comments

I can't say that anyone will not look at this photo, but for most you will not be able to feel the visual connection I have with this photograph. Metaphorically this photograph has many levels of interpratation. For me I see this and think of Diane Arbus and her way of showing love for the abnormal and sympathy for the normal.

My grandfather, not all the way in the frame, life is fading away slowly, just as it seems he could slip out of the frame if you took your eye off the photo.
The frenzied look of my uncle directly reflects the hurried, rambling, rush that he is always in since he had a mental break down early in life.
And my dad's uncle on the right and his methodical scrutiny of my camera and the surroundings around me, mirror his daily investigation into everything there is to inspect.

These are the deep meanings behind this photo.
They are the cherished memories of these relatives that I speak on the phone with occationally and rarely see anymore.
I know these may never mean anything to anyone else, but that is fine.

As the old saying goes, "Home is where the heart is."

Even though there's no direct connection...I feel as though I know this scene. Maybe it's the clothing, or the setting, or the trinkets on the shelves that look familiar, or the expressions on their faces. I don't know. It's been years since I spent time with my relatives, so memories are hazy now...

Sorry for my lame comment, but I think this is a great photo, I wish I could communicate it better.
